Editing in R. Kelly - Ignition (Remix) (Official Video)
This music video uses editing in a different way to most music videos I have seen, for example at the start of the music video the artist sings the lyrics 'so baby lemme give you that toot toot, and lemme give you the beep beep'. When the artist says 'toot toot' and 'beep beep' the music video cuts to shots of a car, showing what R. Kelly is referencing a car.
Then after when R. Kelly enters a party there are jump cuts on the snare beats of the music. This 'cut on beat' is used throughout hip hop but not like this music video where it is obvious.
During the chorus of this music video the transition used between shots is a fade/dissolve. This is used to visually separate the chorus from the music video. This is s typical editing convention of the old school hip hop genre as it is used in a lot of music videos, however this music video has used it in a more focussed way than most.
Another use of editing is the colour grading which isn't very original in this music video as I see it in almost every old school hip hop music video. In this music video like most the yellows are turned up high to make it seem warmer. However in this music video they use the yellow to contrast from the blue colour grading from the different scene where the focus is completely on the artist.
I could use this colour grading contrast with the two artists in my song, one has a yellow colour grading and the other is shown with blue.
