Editing Music Video (Narrative scenes - Football)


With the narrative of my music video I have spread it out across the video in order to be more effective at implementing my favoured style of narrative where the viewers are asking questions throughout until later on where it gets revealed slowly and all at once at the end.

I started softly with the narrative so I put the footage of the two characters playing football just to establish their friendship to the audience. Also to show a contrast to the ending of the narrative of my music video where the two friends have become enemies. 




After a few shots of the two friends playing football I decided to put in some of the friends chatting and laughing to show the viewers that they are close and solidify the idea of their friendship to the viewers. For this shot i decided to get the two actors to just chat as they would naturally about random things. This gave me a more natural acting look from them so it was a lot more convincing for the viewer.

Having edited these narrative scenes in slow motion gave them a good contrast from the main performance from the artists. Also having edited the music video so these scenes were at the start, it really made the start of the music video a lot more interesting as the viewer had something to follow.

Intertextuality is the relationship between texts. It is the idea that all media texts reference one another in one way or another. for example in Shrek there is a lot of itertextuality showing that intertextuality doesn't just have to be with literal 'texts' it cam be in any form of media.   We can clearly see the intertextuality in this video as this scene is almost made from intertextuality.   The first part of the intertextuality is with the three blind mice. The artist of this song, (kanye and jamie) has a very specific appearance. the image that they are showing for this video is that they are both very rich powerful men with the all while that they are wearing alongside their jewelry. this allows the audience to look up to them as a role model. Mise en scene in Nelly - Dilemma ft. Kelly Rowland

The mise en scene in this music video is close to the kind of mise en scene that I want in my music video, also it is the easiest type of mise en scene as I have all the resources in order to master it. This mise en scene is mainly just a regular town. I have chosen to study this mise en scene because my song is about the hood and what bad things happen within it. This song shows what an American hood will look like. Lighting It seems as if the music video is using natural daylight lighting, there could be minimal soft light when the artists are in shade. At night there is more low key lighting. This lighting is more angled and hard light directed towards the focus of the shot. In this music video lighting isn't really used as much as it could have been. Scenery Everything physical within the scene is very middle class, not very rich but not very poor, so it relates to the majority of people.
