Typical convention 3 (Camera work)

Image
These music videos use camera work very similarly. I have found that these music videos have a theme of changing the camera angle from a high angle to a low angle and everywhere in between constantly throughout. An example of this is with Eminem's song rap god where on on of his amplified shots there is a low angle. then the next shot is the same but at a high angle, this kind of theme continues throughout. Eminem's song mainly uses low angle shots against high angle shots. The next example is from 50 Cent's song. This song has both the high and low angle shots however i find it to use high angle shots more unlike Eminem's song. Dr Dre's song uses high and low angles throughout and he uses them a lot, he also uses the same camera movement as Eminem's video with a pan from a high angle to a low angle in a few of his shots. The reasons behind these high and low angle shots are most likely there to emphasize the rapper's lively lifestyle. I also f...

Typical convention 2 (Editing)

Image
Here in Eminem's music video we can see that there is a major amount of Amplification of these shots as these are repeats of the same shot. Here in 50 Cent's music video we see that they are using the same shot like Eminem but have changed it slightly by being at the left of 50 cent rather than in front of him like the previous shot. This is done to make it seem different and more interesting. Here we see a fade editing transition in both Eminem and Dr Dre's songs. This seems to be one of the more common editing transitions I see rather than the simple generic cut. Also with the music videos that I have researched I find that they all have cuts on the beats, not all the cuts but a lot of them.

Typical convention 1 (Intro)

Image
INTRO Straight away with these music videos we can see that they all have an intro in order to project the right narrative/theme/purpose of the music video. This consists of only a few main shots at the start of the video. For example with Eminem's song we see a few shots of the city and then him preparing himself for a rap battle.  Another example is with 50 cent's song where we see some shots of a car driving in a desert with a secret lab beneath creating 50 cent. Another example is with Dr. Dre's song having the three main theme's of his music video which is women, cars and the streets to represent his lifestyle which he is trying to tell everyone he is sticking to . The last example is with Kanye's song where it shows Jamie and him in expensive cloths and an attractive woman showing the narrative at the start. From these music videos I see that this is a typical theme of the hip hop genre. I could implement this kind of thing into my video.

Gold digger - Kanye west

The artist of this song, (kanye and jamie) has a very specific appearance. the image that they are showing for this video is that they are both very rich powerful men with the all while that they are wearing alongside their jewelry. this allows the audience to look up to them as a role model. Lyrics My psychic told me she have a ass like Serena Trina, Jennifer Lopez, four kids An I gotta take all they bad ass to show-biz OK get ya kids but then they got their friends I pulled up in the Benz, they all got up In We all went to Den and then I had to pay If you fucking with this girl then you betta be payed You know why It take too much to touch her From what I heard she got a baby by Busta My best friend say she use to fuck wit Usher I don't care what none of y'all say I still love her  the lyrics of this song show a clear story though out the song. The lyrics i this song tell the audience about a girl that a man loves but he knows deep down that he is only with him for the ...

Eminem - Lose yourself

The lyrics of this song are trying to show people that Eminem's life is very hard, it also describes the troubles that he goes through daily. His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy There's vomit on his sweater already, mom's spaghetti He's nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready To drop bombs, but he keeps on forgettin' What he wrote down, the whole crowd goes so loud He opens his mouth, but the words won't come out He's chokin', how, everybody's jokin' now The clocks run out, times up, over, blaow! This is a part of the first verse in the song.I have found that with this song it tells a story very well unlike the other music videos where there was a lot of disjuncture. In this music video along side the lyrics you see there are images of Eminem preparing himself for a rap battle which is what the lyrics are describing here. Throughout the video what you see on screen is what you are also listening to. However there is s...

50 CENT - In Da Club

The song's lyrics are trying to establish 50 cent as a new rapper, and show everyone what he is all about. My flow, my show brought me the dough That bought me all my fancy things My crib, my cars, my pools, my jewels Look, nigga, I done came up and I ain't changed If you watch how I move, you'll mistake me for a player or pimp Been hit with a few shells, but I don't walk with a limp These are a few of the lyrics in his music video. He talks about what he has achieved and what rough times he has been through and who he is. This links to the narrative of the music video where it seems to be that people are 'creating' 50 Cent in the music video, Therefore this song must be here to establish him as a rapper. This music video has a lot of disjuncture in it. At the start 50 Cent is talking about someone's birthday and the music video shows people developing 50 Cent in a lab, so the two are completely unrelated. This music video often cuts back and forth bet...

Dr Dre - Still Dre

'Still D.R.E' by Dr Dre Lyrics The lyrics to the song are basically trying to put across that Dr Dre is doing well and that he hasn't changed like everyone else has. H e is trying to put across that he is still the Dr Dre that everyone knows despite some setbacks that he may have had. This is easily shows through his lyrics throughout but towards the end of the song are repeated to show the main msg of the song. I'm representing for them gangstas all across the world Still hitting them corners in them lo-lo's, girl (Still taking my time to perfect the beat And I still got love for the streets, it's the D-R-E) The visuals of this music video fit with the lyrics. This music video shows Dr Dre and Snoop Dog driving around the city where they are from or where they originate. This song is about Dr Dre connecting to his roots and not changing, as he shows this by having every element of his lifestyle in the music video (Lo Rider cars, Women, friends, the ...
