Narrative ideas

Image
I have a few ideas as I want to break the typical conventions of an old school hip hop music video. My idea was that the main artist (rapper) is playing basketball with a friend, making bets together. Then I use intertexuality to recreate the GTA scene where the two friends are buying drugs off one another. This will then create a dispute between the two friends and when they both are at the basketball court the artist (rapper) will pull a gun on his old friend and shoot him dead. I have already found a suitable location for the basketball scenes. There is quite a few basketball courts at a place called west park. these basketball courts have huge lights that beam down on the court below at night so it should give me some interesting/atmospheric lighting when it comes to filming at night.   The basket ball scene that I want to film when they are friends i will do in the day, and when they have become enemies, I will film at night. I'm hoping this will show the change of emotion...

digipak plan

Image
These four images are the front and back of two digipak designs that I believe fit my genre. I have asked everyone in my class which one they prefer. I found that digipak design 2 was the favourite. Digipak design 2 is the artist sat facing to the right side of the viewer while being far away on an old looking chair. Then on the back we see the front of the chair a bit closer now with the artist gone but with a gun left in his place. To me this digipak represents the struggles and loneliness of the artist. Back digipak 2 Front digipak 2 Digipack design 1 is showing a white police hand from above aiming a gun at the artist's and showing the dispute between black people and the police. On the back we have the opposite with the white police hand helping up the black man's hand. This shows what the world is like and what it should be. This also links greatly to the meaning of the song I am doing the music video for. Back digipak 1 Front digipak 1 Digip...

What I have found from digipaks

I have found that with old school hip hop digipaks the colour scheme is dark and there aren't many vibrant colours. There is a message that the artist is trying to put across to the audience through the digipak without listening to it yet. There is usually some sort of imagery that represents the artist in the digipak or a photo of the artist himself keeping with the themes. All of the information on who made the digipak and copyright information is usually in small print so that the customer focuses on the other parts of the digipak that are designed to make the customer want to buy it. The small print is usually in a font that is boring to the customer so that they aren't interested in it. I have also found that the small print font colour is always white, so that it is readable on the typically dark background but doesn't pop compared to the main text therefore the focus is on the if the main text rather than the small print. The small print is usually tucked away from t...

Eminem digipak

Image
This didipak is different to most of this genre. Eminem's style is talking about his problems and his emotions within his songs. Therefore his digipak also does this as well. The front cover is a shot of him looking nervous behind the certain, not wanting to go out on stage. This may be because he has something to hide. The colour red is the colour that everyone has the highest emotional reaction to. This could show that what is within the digipak is very emotional, which suits Eminem's character. The spotlight over the mic shows where Eminem should be, however his position is behind the certain. At the top of this image is the words 'Eminem The Eminem Show' The font is a blocky 3D font which fits the stage theme that is this digipak. Parental advisory is on the bottom right away from the main subject of the image. On the back of the digipak it is just the mic left on its own without Eminem showing that he has left and not performing making the customer wonder what ...

Eazy-E digipak

Image
The front of the digipak shows a policeman with a gun looking to be in conflict with someone and the word 'Wanted' is above it. This shows the environment that Eazy-E has been in. Trying to appeal to those who are still in that dangerous environment aka their fans. The image behind is black and white, which looks like CCTV as if it is a crime scene, which keeps to the themes of this genre. In the bottom left there is a parental advisory stamp. In the top right there is the records core message which is 'home for tha sick' which corresponds with 5150. At the top there is the artists name in a grafiti-like font which shows the style of the artist.  The other side of the digipak has the song names on the left with descriptions beneath them. The song names stand out with a big font and a vibrant colour compared to the background. 5150  'is a section of the California Welfare and Institutions Code the (Lanterman–Petris–Short Act or "LPS") which authorizes a...

Snoop dogg digipak

Image
This side of the digipak has all of the tracks within the record listed on the left hand side. This side sticks to the same theme as the front with the two main colours being blue and gold to represent the 'rich life' of snoop dogg. Next to this the main focus of the image is the record label logo yet again being gold that is shining. It is clear to see now that digipaks go by a colour scheme that fits the content of the tracks, an they don't stray too far from it. Underneath there is the name of the executive producer. I find that this side is the content side, so whoever contributed to this record is listed on here hand what is within the record is listed on here as well. There is a black background to this digipak in order to make the text stand out. In one corner there is the bar code which i find to be typical of all digipaks as it is out the way away from the main content. Next to the bar code there are the other companies involved with this record including the off...

2 PAC digipak research

Image
This is a Digipak from death row records by the artist 2pac. The image of the digipak is very unique in representing the style of the artist 2pac. 2pac is postitioned on the right hand side of the cover. This leaves room around him to put all of the information needed for the digipak. The artist is the biggest thing on the digipak showing his dominance and bringing focus onto himThe artist is looking at the image with a relaxed posture. The image of the artist also shows the artist's culture and way of life easily by the jewellery that he wears and the tattoos and clothing. It is a stereotype of someone in this genre. Down the left hand side of the digipak there are the names of the tracks within. These are separated by two CDs. They have positioned the track names in a way that they look to be curving around the artist's hand, they have done this through the different track name lengths. There is a bar code at the top right which is filling up another space. Lower down...

Ideas for music video

Image
These are the types of scenes that I want to have in my music video. The top two screenshots are scenes that I plan to make a hybrid of. I want the blue/cold tint to the scene with high key lighting and have the style of the Kanye west music video (Blank background). The screenshot bellow shows a woman around a man being very flirtatious. This is the type of thing I want to incorporate into this studio recorded scene. The next scene I want to have is my two artists next to a low rider in a car park, maybe sitting on it rapping into the camera, making the car's hydraulics bounce etc. The next scene will be my narrative scene, trying to keep with the narrative of the lyrics. This is the part where my music video will have a story. The final scene could be my two artists in the car driving along the road, this could be hard to do as the people I am choosing to use for the video can't drive, so therefore I will probably do the same thing but have ...

Mise en scene

Image
Props Low Rider I will be using a low rider for my music video. This =is a typical car that is used in old school hip hop music videos as it is a part of their culture. Glock I will be using a fake Glock pistol as a prop for the narrative gangsters when we see the hustling scene where there is an intense standoff. Costumes plan Outfit 1   Outfit 2 Accessories

People in my music video

Image
Jevoni Jerome These two will be rapping/singing in my music video, I have allowed both of them to decide who wants to rap and who wants to sing as they both look very similar so it wouldn't make much of a difference. They are currently listening to the song every so often and reading the lyrics in order to learn it. Later on i will be finding extras for my music video but right now these two are the artists that are featured.

Locations

Image
Another location is a car park in derby city, this is where I should be able to get most of my artists one on one shots with the viewers. I will  also be using the low rider in this part of the video. This location can be shot at night or at sunset/golden hour or during the day. I will be getting a lot of shots from this location and will be featuring the main parts of my music video. One of my locations can be inside my school, if I am going to get the effect of R Kelly or Kanye West's music video this is probably going to be one of the best places to film it. There is a white backdrop in a room in my school where I should be able to get the overexposed, blown out look that I am after if I intensify it with lights. The next location will be in a shopping place within 'The Meadows' in Nottingham where I will be recording the narrative part of my music video. This location is very British which is what I am trying to avoid because my song can't be any more americ...

Equipment needed

Equipment list: Tripod I will be using this in order to get the main shots as i can use it to do high angle shots by holding it up from the base, and all of my static shots. I have also found a camera movement technique that I am able to use with a tripod to simulate a body mount for the camera. Digital voice recorder I will be using this for the start of the music video where my two artists can say a few things before the song starts, like in a typical hip hop music video. i can also use this for sounds that can be heard during the narrative. DSLR Cannon camera (100D) This is the main camera that I use and has all of the functions that are needed for this music video. Skateboard I can use this to do some dolly shots with the gimble, This will make the music video more interesting for the audience by having a wide range of shots. Soft box lights X2 I will mainly be using this for the blown out light studio shot scene where I will need a lot of light. This li...
